Trust Him Fully

Blondin was a 19th century acrobat, famous for his tightrope act 160 feet above Niagara Falls on a rope which was over a thousand feet long. In 1860 a Royal party from Britain saw Blondin cross the tightrope on stilts, and again blindfolded. After that he stopped halfway and cooked and ate an omelette. Next he wheeled a wheelbarrow from one side to the other, and returned with a sack of potatoes in it.

Then Blondin approached the Royal party. He asked the Duke of Newcastle, "do you believe I could take a man across the tightrope in this wheelbarrow?" "Yes, I do" , said the Duke. "Hop in, then" , replied Blondin.

Well, the Duke declined Blondin's challenge. He might have believed Blondin could do it, but he wasn't about to trust him with his life. When it comes to God, this kind of belief is not much good to him. God is looking for followers who will trust him with their lives. When we are challenged with trials in life,

HOW CAN WE FULLY TRUST IN HIM?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” –PROVERBS 3:5-6

1. Trust in the Lord with all your heart

When God challenges you to get into that wheelbarrow, are you going to trust in Him with all our heart?

  • Believing is not enough. Even demons have that kind of faith. They know and believe that God exists (James 2:19) - and tremble.
  • The difference is that, they have no loving confidence in God. We have faith in God- meaning, we believe and have loving confidence in Him. "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." He.11:1.
  • We don’t need proofs to have faith in God. When we learn to love God, faith will just come out.
  • We have to Fully trust Him. Trust is the practical outworking of faith: it is when we trust God that we show that our faith in Him is real.

2. Lean not on your own understanding

  • We think we know better than God, but the reality is that, like Adam and Eve in the beginning, our wisdom and understanding is weak, crooked and unreliable.
  • At first Solomon pleased God and was obedient to him, but then he began to think he knew better than God. He acquired an army for himself and imported horses from Egypt; he accumulated vast amounts of silver and gold and built himself a palace even more opulent than the temple he'd just built. He had 700 wives and 300 concubines. He began to opress the people.
  • The Lord gives wisdom and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding- Proverbs 2:6
  • Lean not on your own understanding. Lean instead on the wisdom of God's word. We need FAITH. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. Ro. 10:17

3. In all your ways acknowledge Him

God cares not just about your sacred activities but about everything you do. Break the wall and let God be at the center of everything you do.

4. He shall direct your paths

  • God's path is not the path we would naturally take, and God's idea of a straight path is not necessarily our idea of a straight path.
  • Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

finishing the battle.. obeying the commander

I’m tired. My heart is gradually tearing apart. I don’t want to question why because I know the answer. Life involves solving puzzles and problems. But it's not all about sufferings. It's about whom we run to as we go through the trials and walk through the fire.

I just want to rest for a while. Anyhow, sometimes, the warrior is a child. Sometimes, we need to cry. Nonetheless, crying does not signify fear or weakness. We are human, we need it. The battle is still on, I just need to lay down my armour and take a break for just a little while.

Even though something seems to be crashing my heart now, my flesh is crying out: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear..” I believe, just like what He said to Joshua, the successor of Moses, God also wants me to take courage and be strong. My Lord is with me always. My hope is in the Lord. He will not leave me nor forsake me. My God is faithful. He loves me. No man can ever harm me.

Whatever problem it is that I am having right now, I am taking courage and leaning only to God. I know God wants me to feel uncomfortable right now because He wants me to run to Him for comfort. I will run to Him- No matter how long, no matter how far, no matter how tiring, no matter how hard, and no matter how foolish I may look in front of people, I will always run to my Lord. I will finish the battle, and obey my commander.

God is good all the time. Amen.

Jesus Resurrection- A historical event or a Hoax?

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the heart of Christianity. For this reason, this matter has been attacked by skeptics for how many years now. Nonetheless, noone has ever thrown down the truth about the resurrection. Many have tried, but it seemed that not even one has proven that Jesus Resurrection is a myth. That is because, He has indeed rose from the dead.

One simple example is the opposition of the once recorded “most successful lawyers ever lived” Sir Lionel Luckhoo (Guiness Book of Records). He has been among the most successful advocates of his time and brilliant lawyer, 245 consecutive successful defenses in murder cases. He was challenged to prove that his claim that the resurrection of Christ is a hoax and so he gave years of study about the case. It turned out that Luckoo, instead of presenting his negative claim about the resurrection of Christ, has presented himself as a converted Christian. He said:

“I humbly add I have spent more than 42 years as a defense trial lawyer appearing in many parts of the world and am still in active practice. I have been fortunate to secure a number of successes in jury trials and I say unequivocally the evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is so overwhelming that it compels acceptance by proof which leaves absolutely no room for doubt.”

Many of us today have strong stand about our own opinions and theories. I believe that everyone has the right to have his own view and belief. For now, mine will be strongly about affirming that Jesus indeed rose from the dead.

History will say that not just a simple bible school student like me will have this same stand. Simon Greenleaf (1783-1853) was one of the founders of Harvard Law School also has the same stand. Lee Strobel was a Yale-educated, award-winning journalist at the Chicago Tribune, once an aetheist, has the same claim. These brilliant people and many other more intelligent fellows are also claiming that Jesus resurrected. Some of them were once on the other side but it turned out that they have proved themselves wrong firsthand, because of the evidences they have discovered while trying to prove the resurrection of Christ was a myth. They all agree- Jesus indeed resurrected.

Some of the people in the negative side would say that I and my fellow believers do not have enough evidence because we were not there when it happened. This is somewhat a silly argument because we are believing a lot about history, say Roman and Greek History, the story of Helen of troy, the reign of Juliius Caesar, the Philosophy of great Philosophers like Plato, the story of Alexander the great and so on and so forth, these are all accepted in the society. Note that the history of Alexander the Great was recorded first by Plutarch. Alexander the great died 323BC, and Plutarch was born 46AD. That is almost 400 years in between, but the society is very much enjoying the information about this Roman conqueror, as given by Plutarch. Amidst all these, why do a lot of people are still in doubt of Christ’s Life, Death, and Resurrection, while strong historical bases are set before our very eyes?? That is because, many refuse to open their eyes towards the truth. It is all beyond the natural laws! Our 3 pound brain could not totally contradict God’s case!
