For the past months, I have been neutral and unbiased. But recently I've come up with the decision to go for Leni because she was the only candidate who has a clean record and credible platform. Also, I was being critical of looking at the endorsers of Leni, who are mostly people of intelligence and integrity. The endorsers surely speak about the person whom they are endorsing- that's what we may call projection of character, if you will.
I watched every interview of the presidentiables from Boy Abunda, Korina Sanchez, Karen Davila, Toni Gonzaga, Jessica Soho and others. I was actually more leaning toward Lacson and Moreno before because they were the familiar ones as far as my context is concerned. Pacquiao was also within my radar because I find his candidacy interesting since he is a brother in faith. I felt his beautiful heart and clean intention to help however, I thought that presidency would really be too much for him to swallow. Actually, the senate already was. On another note, I honestly found BBM intelligent- no doubt about that. However it was not enough once again because of the red flags. Believe it or not, I was trying to convince myself to go for BBM because I really liked their projects about the use of renewable energy sources in the Philippines.
Nonetheless, there was really something about Leni Robredo although it worries me when she becomes president because it may be so hard to take. She is well-loved by many, but of course, history tells that those who were once loved ended up being hated just like what happened to the current and outgoing President Duterte. The Filipinos are usually hard to please so any wrong move will produce immense bashing and disgust- sad reality- and VPLeni is just too nice to deserve such. Well surely, it all depends as we cross the bridge in the next six years so we'll see.
I don't want to talk much about the background of #VPLeni or of the other presidential aspirants because these are already given. What I want to stress is our role as Christians in this emotional time for the nation. Yes emotions are high and I have been praying that we don't lose friends and families just because of our differences in our choices.
Now here is the thing: Whoever wins, we are to support, because that is what the Bible says.
Romans 13:1-2 says: "Obey the government, for God is the One who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power."
That is why even though I intend to vote for #VPLeni, I commit myself to still support and even pray for whoever will be elected not because of any foolish reasons but because of God's Biblical instruction alone. There is no thing in this world that is overlooked by God, for sure, He is watching and He already knows who will get elected. Whether we like it or not, God permits things to happen (but it doesn't mean that he likes everything that happens). Those who remain in His will, will experience His work, using all things for the good. No matter what, with a good or an evil leader, we remain in God, who is the ultimate master in our lives.
Subjectively, I am not really choosing Leni but I am choosing God. Leni is my choice for presidency but I serve God. I will cooperate with the government but in times of choosing between the earthly leadership and God, the latter is more important.
In the end, the president and other leaders in our country are just part of this temporal world. What really matters are the eternal things- our relationship with Jesus Christ, whom we are looking forward to meet face-to-face whether in death or in the age to come.
This election time is just temporary and we will all move on - days after May 9, 2022. I pray that we find love in our hearts today and tomorrow because no matter what, we are accountable for our actions.
I hope and pray that your emotions my friend will not get the best of you. I believe you can do better than that if you just let God be the ultimate master of your life.
Jesus loves us and wants us all to have life to the fullest. Any politician can promise the moon and stars to you and would fail later. But our Savior and King never will. I pray that you trust Him with your life today not on any name in your ballot. If you are a true child of God, you will receive Him and make His name above all names and acknowledge what He has done for you and me on the cross so we can have eternal life with Him.
