Through The Years: When It Is More Than A Graduation Song

I have been playing repeatedly for the past hour the song  “Through the Years” by Rascal Flatts which they covered as tribute for Kenny Rogers, the original artist of the song. The song got me high. I thought, this song is more than a graduation song… It struck my heart so much that I got a very special perspective about it. It spoke so much about me and the Lord Jesus, through the years. 

While listening, I remember a lot about myself, from the old me to who I am now. He has never let me down, even at times when I didn’t see Him, He was always there for me definitely. What a love. I can never imagine anything the two of us can’t do.

In my head, I see the memories in slow motion, from the time when He has turned my life around, to the times when I followed and obeyed Him, when He gave me the calling to go… When I see myself walking alone with my heavy backpack and bulky trolley in the dark streets, in the hot roads, by the seas, across the valleys, over the mountains and seas, in airports, in the plane, in foreign lands.. when I don’t know anyone, but Him, when I don’t depend on anyone, but Him.

I realize, since the time I accepted Him in my heart, I have never been afraid, I just got nervous. I am human but I suddenly got power in His presence. He has brought me through many tunnels in His miraculous ways through the years.

It is a great reminder for me that I don’t work alone, for we are a team. Together we were strong even until today. So as long as it’s ok or not, I will stay with Jesus, because I know I belong right here with Him.

Suddenly I remember the dog theology. Because there was this dog about 300 meters away from our place. We usually see her whenever we visit a pastor’s house and she gets so excited whenever she sees me. She seems so faithful like any other dog to their master.

You see, a dog looks up to his/her master..

• -        Dog depends on his/her master and trusts that He will give food.
• -        Dog gets excited in his/her master’s presence.
• -        Dog wants the master to be around all the time.
• -        Dog obeys and pleases the master.
• -        Dog is faithful to the master.
• -        Dog gets so sad when the master leaves.
• -        Dog is not afraid to show emotion to the master.
• -        Dog is not afraid when the master is around.
• -        Dog loves his/her master...

For every master is a dog's center of life and world.

And wow, I just feel like our love for God should be just like how a dog loves his/her master. This is why I love dogs. They do teach me important lessons in life.

Anyway, through the years, God has never let me down especially since the day He has turned my life around. From the day I have accepted Christ in my life, I have found the best and sweetest days to live for. With Him, it’s better everyday…
